The holidays are in full swing and the I am getting as much painting done in between the running about that this time usually brings. Family are on the way and last minute purchases are made while the kitchen is where all the action is happening. Good times!
I have had moments during these busy times to get in some painting. These moments are an essential escape for me. Painting is a challenge and can be difficult when problems need to be solved. On the other hand it is also a calming activity that many take up for the pleasure of doing something so relaxing.
I guess it comes down to what we need to get out of painting. Is it a a career or a hobby? Hopefully whatever path you are following brings you more joy.
This is also a time for reflecting on lessons learned during the past year. I have not reached any firm conclusions yet, but there were plenty of mistakes and highlights too. While you may be considering New Year resolutions I think the biggest issue for me is getting the perspective correct. Hindsight is perfect vision, but the future is uncertain. A balance needs to be achieved.
In this last breath of 2014 I hope that you have a safe and happy New Year. I will be adding new paintings in the coming weeks, but in the meantime here is a selection of holidays paintings from my easel. Enjoy!
To you and yours have a a great New Year!
